Privacy Policy
This policy explains what GimKit Join collects when you host or join a live quiz game, how long we keep it, and what choices you have.
Last updated: September 9, 2026
Who we are
GimKit Join is a free web app for classroom quiz games. Teachers create games and share room codes. Students join with a first name on any device with a browser.
We do not sell personal information. We do not run ads targeted at students based on quiz answers.
Information we collect
When you use GimKit Join, we may process:
- Host details: quiz title, host display name, game mode, and questions you enter or load from a template.
- Player details: first name (or nickname), answers, score, virtual money, and power-ups during a live game.
- Room data: six-letter room codes, game status, and timestamps while a session is active.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, and basic server logs for security and abuse prevention.
- Local storage: your host name may be saved in your browser so you do not retype it every time.
We do not require student email addresses, student accounts, or full legal names to join a game.
How we use information
We use this data to:
- Run live quiz games and sync scores between devices.
- Keep game rooms available while a class session is active.
- Fix bugs, prevent abuse, and keep the service stable.
- Improve templates and game modes based on general usage patterns.
We do not use quiz answers to build advertising profiles for students.
How long we keep data
Live game rooms are temporary. When a game ends or the room expires, player names, scores, and question data tied to that room are removed from active storage.
Server logs are kept for a limited time for security, then deleted or aggregated.
Children and schools
GimKit Join is built for classroom use under adult supervision. Teachers should follow their school's policies on student nicknames and online tools.
If you are a parent or school admin and want a room removed or have questions about student data, contact us at [email protected].
Third-party services
We may use hosting, database, and infrastructure providers to run the site. Those providers process data only to deliver the service, under contractual safeguards.
We do not embed third-party ad trackers on game screens.
Your choices
- Use nicknames instead of real names when joining.
- Clear your browser local storage to remove a saved host name.
- Do not share room codes outside your class if you want a private game.
- Email us to ask what data we hold about a specific issue or report abuse.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page when our practices change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Continued use of GimKit Join after an update means you accept the revised policy.
