Classroom management tips
- Set clear expectations before sharing the code — names, devices down until start.
- Use Team mode so quieter students contribute to a shared bank.
- Plan 2–3 minutes per question including reveal and leaderboard.
- In Knockout, explain elimination rules upfront so nobody is surprised.
Advanced features
- Power-ups
- Students buy 2x Money ($500), Shield ($300), and Hint ($200) in Classic mode. See /gimkit-play.
- Streak bonuses
- Consecutive correct answers add +$25 each time in Classic mode.
- Mode multipliers
- Boss Battle pays 1.5× money. Knockout uses harsher wrong-answer penalties.
- Public vs private
- Private games need your code only. Public games also appear on /gimkit-live for community join-ins.
Troubleshooting
Students cannot join
Verify the code on the board. Check school Wi-Fi blocks — try mobile hotspot test.
Game freezes
Refresh host view. Students refresh too. Avoid switching tabs during live phases.
Wrong answers showing
Double-check correct answer markers on /create before you go live.
Audio/video issues
This site is silent by default. Use your own countdown or classroom cues.

Common questions
Do teachers need an account to host?
No. Open /create, add or load questions, pick a mode, and you get a room code instantly.
How many questions should I use?
Most teachers use 8–12 questions for a 15–20 minute review session.
Which mode is best for test review?
Knockout adds stakes. Classic with power-ups keeps everyone in until the end.
Can students join late?
Yes during lobby or early questions. Share the same code until you finish the game.
How do I share the join link?
Display the six-character code and point students to gimkitjoin.app/join.
What is the host panel?
Controls that only you see: hold, show question, reveal, leaderboard, next, and finish.
Can I make my game public?
Yes. Toggle “Make this game public” on the create page or in the host lobby.
Do students need accounts?
No accounts or apps. They enter the code and a first name only.
Can I reuse the same quiz?
Load a template from /quizzes or save your question set and create a new room each period.
What if Wi-Fi drops?
Refresh the host page. Students refresh too. The game state saves while the room is active.
How do power-ups work?
In Classic mode students buy 2x Money, Shield, or Hint with virtual cash between questions.
Is hosting free?
Yes. GimKit Join is free for teachers and students on this site.
